This course is ideal if you're exploring a new career field, or if you have experience in project work but want to better understand the basics of project management. It will give you tools and skills you can use immediately in your organization. This program is not intended as a preparation course for project management certification. The content is aligned with the PMI's PMBOK® Guide, sixth edition, and can serve as a stepping stone if you wish to pursue certification in the future.
This course is geared towards working professionals who need a fundamental introduction to project management practice and application. Students will gain practical skills needed to successfully execute a project. Content covered includes:
- Module One: Project Management: The Discipline and the Profession
- Module Two: Planning and Balancing Project Work
- Module Three: Executing, Controlling and Closing the Project
- Module Four: Strategic Value of Projects
This program requires four days of online instruction and the successful completion of online activities.
Students are required to have Internet access, and use a web camera and microphone to participate in the online live sessions. This equipment is not provided by the university.
The online course costs $750. Early bird pricing is $650.

- For 21 or more calendar days in advance of start date: Full refund, no fee.
- For 15 to 20 days’ notice in advance of start date: Cancellation fee of 30% of regular registration price.

- For 7 or less days’ notice prior to start date: Cancellation fee of 50% of regular registration price.

NIU uses the CertWise Learning System. Course materials include online learning modules covering key project management topics, end of module assignments, and interactive online study tools, including case studies, templates and quizzes. Participants will receive an e-mail communication with instructions for accessing the online component a few days prior to the class start. Students registering within 5 days of class start may not have immediate access to the online resources.
